Following instructions by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), states have launched a surveillance campaign of edible oil and vanaspati as well as multi-source edible oil (MSEO). This surveillance campaign will be implemented in the entire country from August 1 to 14, 2022. Edible oil samples of local and reputed brands will be taken and analysed for impurities and adulteration.
Multi-source edible oil being sold in the market without the requisite Agmark licence, will come under strict scrutiny. The sale of loose edible oil is prohibited and legal action will be taken against the law breakers.
S.P Adhav, Joint Commissioner, FDA headquarters, Maharashtra, said, “Edible oil surveillance campaign is being implemented throughout the state on the directions of FSSAI from August 1 to 14, 2022, during which surveillance samples of edible oil of local brands as well as all India brands and also of vanaspati and multi-source edible oil, will be taken for analysis. Also, the sale of loose oil is prohibited so the same will be checked. Further action regarding contravening samples will be taken once the analysis reports are received.”
Also, in Thane Division, along with 25 edible oil samples, 3 vanaspati samples, and 4 MSEO samples, a total of 32 surveillance samples have been collected for analysis
